Entertainment groups in Fort Frances and Dryden have secured another Canadian performer for their concertgoers.
Jeff Martin, the vocalist of the rock band The Tea Party, is embarking on a solo tour in the new year and includes stops in the northwestern Ontario communities in early March.
His appearance fills a hole left by Sass Jordan, who stopped touring in September and died a few weeks later.
The Dryden Entertainment Series has informed its subscribers that those who had tickets for Jordan will receive the same assigned seats for Martin’s performance.
Tour De Fort in Fort Frances states the show will be included for passport holders, with a limited number of individual tickets to go on sale, online only, on November 6th.
Martin’s tour will celebrate the 21st anniversary of his debut solo album, ‘Exile and The Kingdom.’
Fort Frances students will be looking for the crowd to be jumpin’ when they ‘Pump Up the Jamz” at the Townshend Theatre this week.
It is the theme of this year’s musical review.
Grade 10 student Scarlett Morrison says they will perform a variety of popular songs.
“I think there’s some from the 80s, there’s some from the 2000s and something from today,” says Morrison.
“Just songs that have aged well and get stuck in your head a lot.”
“Definitely a lot of influence from my generation, 2010s, 2000s,” says Grade 11 student Woods Parent.
“That kind of stuff that, for me personally, I grew up with just because of the group that’s working on it this year.”
The students were provided a list of songs to consider at the start of rehearsal, which started several weeks ago.
Some were added based on student recommendations and what they want to sing.
Some of the numbers are dance numbers, with students taking up the role of the choreography.
“This is the first musical review where we don’t have an adult doing choreography at all,” says Parent.
“It was me and Cassandra Armstrong who choreographed the larger numbers and along with some of the smaller ones.”
Both students have experience in dance, with Parent involved in choreography for Musical Review last year.
“This is my third year in musical review. I think this is gonna be the best one of them all so far,” exclaims Parent.

“Truly, this is an amazing group. It has some great songs. The choreography is great. I mean, I say so myself. The song choices, again, they’re newer, they’re livelier. I think it’s gonna be a great time.”
I love all the choreography for everything and getting to work with all of my friends and have a lot of fun just doing everything,” adds Morrison.
Performances at the Townshend Theatre will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, beginning each night at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30.
This year, it is also a free show, so everyone of any age is welcome to enjoy some of the best musical talent Fort Frances High School has to offer.
The Amazing Race Canada is exploring Canada’s vibrant east coast with a visit to the scallop capital of the world.
In a post online, Digby area tourism said they can’t wait to see their beautiful corner of Nova Scotia showcased across the country.
A preview of the episode shows contestants getting their hands dirty in a scallop-shucking competition. Other challenges look like a DJ-related task, and some good old fashioned construction.
This week’s episode also features an Amazing Race Canada first double elimination.
The top 6 teams will look to survive the difficult week and win the $250,000 cash prize and a trip around the world.
The episode airs on Sept. 1, at 9 P.M. on CTV, or can be streamed on Crave starting Sept 2.
Tim Curry, the actor best-known for his outrageous portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died.
He was 80.
Multiple media outlets reported the actor died late Tuesday night at his Los Angeles home.
Curry had been dealing with serious health issues for about a decade, and had a massive stroke in 2012.
The British actor had a varied career with memorable roles such as Wadsworth in Clue, Pennywise in the 1990 TV mini-series It, and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island, just to name a few.
His distinctive voice also allowed him to have a successful voiceover career, often as animated villains.
The Babin family from Rosaireville, New Brunswick, recently appeared on Family Feud Canada.
After three wins, they never hit the big money, but Joanne Frigault says the experience was well worth it.
“The funny thing is, our oldest sister, Denise, had applied without us even knowing. When she let us know we were all game for it, of course, but we never thought we’d make it to the show. We had an interview, and they liked us,” Frigault explained.
It was a lengthy process with a lot of forms to fill out. Frigault says they asked a lot of questions, wanted to know information about the sisters and funny things that have happened in their lifetime.
They arrived for the show in August and stayed for four days. The first day, they had a full day in Toronto to do whatever they wanted before heading into the studio on Saturday and Sunday.

“On the Saturday, we didn’t end up filming, so we just watched the tapings, and we met all the families. We filmed on the Sunday. We had watched the show before. I mean, everybody watches Family Feud, but there’s so much editing, and there’s so much prep that you don’t realize that goes on behind the scenes,” Frigault says.
Rosaireville is a small community near Rogersville, New Brunswick. “Everybody was really proud and really supportive. It was an awesome experience,” Frigault says.
“Having to compete against another New Brunswick family on the second day was really nice too.”
She has this advice for anyone considering applying to be on Family Feud Canada, “Just do it. It’s such an awesome experience, and everybody there is so nice, and it’s so fun. It created a lot of good memories, especially for my sisters and me. It was really nice to spend time together.”
