New fees about to kick in for false alarms in Halifax
Setting off a false alarm in the Halifax Regional Municipality is about to get more expensive.
The city says as of September 1, it will cost you $300 flat fee if you set off a false alarm for security system or fire alarm at a commercial property and multi-unit residential building.
It will $50 per alarm for residential properties with fewer than three units.
The city says when an alarm goes off by mistake, first responders still have to investigate.
“This takes time and resources away from people who need help during real emergencies,” says the HRM website.
The changes were approved by Council January 13, to be implemented later in the year.
