SOLE lifted in parts of Cape Breton following intense flooding
The State of Local Emergency (SOLE) declared following devastating flooding in Cape Breton has been lifted for Inverness and Victoria Counties, but remains in effect for Richmond County.
The emergency declaration was put in place last Sunday after severe flooding washed out roads, forced evacuations, and claimed one life.
Regional Emergency Management Officials (REMO) determined conditions had improved enough to lift the order in Inverness and Victoria Counties Tuesday evening. However, Richmond County, which experienced some of the worst flooding in the region, continues to require further assessment and recovery efforts.

Following consultation with REMO and other provincial partners, schools sent notices to parents advising that Richmond County schools, including Felix Marchand Education Centre, East Richmond Education Centre, and Richmond Education Centre/Academy, would remain closed on Wednesday, September 9.
Classes will resume at all schools in Inverness County and the Town of Port Hawkesbury.
Officials say crews are continuing to assess damage and restore affected infrastructure in the hardest-hit areas. They add that some school bus routes are still experiencing disruptions and are directing parents and students to check the Student Transportation website for updates.
Residents are being reminded to check 511 Nova Scotia for the latest road and travel information before heading out, as some routes may still be impacted by flood damage.
