North Preston childcare centre to get electric heat pump

A childcare centre in North Preston is about to get a new electric heat pump.

The province says the $100,000 announced Tuesday for the North Preston Day Care Centre also includes planning for other upgrades to the building including solar panels, new insulation, windows and doors as well as energy-efficient light fixtures.

The money comes from the Sustainable Communities Challenge Fund to the North Preston Medical Society which helps run the centre.

The centre, which opened 54 years ago, is currently heated by an oil-fired boiler and has baseboard radiators from the 1970’s.

Minister Twila Grosse says it is an investment in the future of this historic African Nova Scotian community.

“We are helping strengthen an important community space so it can contimue to provide a safe, comfortable and welcoming place to learn, grow and thrive for the next generations.”
