Melanie Lapish case at the highest levels: OPP

Provincial Police say a lot of resources have been going into the search for Melanie Lapish.

The 34-year-old has been missing since February 2024.

She was last seen in the parking lot of the McDonald’s Restaurant in Fort Frances on February 26, 2024.

Staff Sergeant Derek McLean says the case is still an active and ongoing investigation.

“This is at the highest levels,” says McLean.

“We have committed a lot of resources, and we still will.”

A $50,000 reward for information remains in place.

“We would strongly encourage anybody who has information on the whereabouts of Melanie to reach out to us directly,” says McLean.

“Crime Stoppers is an option as well, but it’s really up to the public to bring forward that information.”

An advocate for Lapish’s family had written to Council asking that they formally acknowledge Lapish’s disappearance, engage with the OPP to ensure the investigation remains active, advocate for continued inter-agency cooperation, and support pubic awareness of the case.

“The family of Melanie Lapish continues to live with unanswered questions and ongoing trauma. They are entitled to assurance that every reasonable effort remains underway and that all levels of
leadership remain engaged,” reads the letter.

Council sent the letter to the Rainy River District West OPP Detachment Board, where McLean provided the update.
