Moncton ratifies new deal for 275 city workers
Moncton City Council ratified a new collective agreement with the City Hall Employees Association (CHEA), which represents about 275 municipal employees.
Council approved the agreement at its regular public meeting on Nov. 2.
Union members work in professional, technical, and clerical roles, as well as civilian positions with the RCMP in the Codiac region and as community safety officers.
The previous agreement expired on Dec. 31, 2025, and the two sides have been negotiating since February 2026.
The new four-year agreement includes annual economic increases of four per cent in 2026 and three per cent in each of the following three years.
Other changes include increases to the employee vehicle allowance, changes to starting vacation allotments and updates to the job evaluation system.
In a statement, Shawn Crossman said union members play an important role in delivering city services.
“CHEA staff are part of every City department, making direct contributions to services that our residents rely on every day,” Crossman said.
“We are pleased to have been able to reach a new collective agreement and would like to thank all involved in the bargaining process.”
The agreement will be implemented retroactively to Jan. 1, 2026, and remain in effect until Dec. 31, 2029.
Rod Dunnett, president of CHEA/PSAC Local 60200, thanked both bargaining teams and union members following the ratification vote.
Dunnett added that he hopes the agreement will help maintain a positive relationship between the union and the city.
“Our members take pride in the work they do and the services they provide to the residents of Moncton,” he said.
“We hope this agreement provides a strong foundation for continued cooperation, mutual respect, and a positive working relationship with the City.”
