Outbreak at Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances declared over

Visitor restrictions have been lifted at Rainycrest Long Term Care.

They were put in place last Friday because a gastrointestinal outbreak affected the Fort Frances home’s West wing.

Riverside Health Care has now declared the outbreak over.

“Our detailed safety procedures and infection prevention and control practices remain in place to help ensure the health and safety of our staff, the community and those within our care,” reads a Riverside release.

It still asks visitors to stay away if they are experiencing signs of illness for the protection of staff and residents.

Enhanced infection prevention and control measures are now in place at Rainycrest Long Term Care.

Riverside Health Care says it is because of a gastrointestinal outbreak within the Fort Frances home’s West wing.

Residents who are housed in the wing are now limited to no more than two visitors or caregivers in their room.

Visitors are also being asked to follow posted instructions, including hand hygiene and other infection prevention and control measures that are in place.

Riverside is also asking visitors to self-screen before entering the building and refrain from visiting if they are experiencing any symptoms of illness.

Restrictions are also in place for admissions, transfers, discharges and social activities on the affected wing until further notice.

Respiratory outbreak declared over in Fort Frances long-term care home

One of two respiratory outbreaks at Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances has been declared over.

Riverside Health Care reports that visitor restrictions impacting residents in the West Wing have been lifted.

They remain in place in the East Wing.

Enhanced masking protocols remain in place.

Riverside is also reminding visitors to stay away if they are unwell or experiencing any flu-like symptoms.

“We continue to remind visitors that infection prevention remains a shared responsibility,” a statement reads.

“Individuals are asked not to visit if they are feeling unwell, particularly if experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, and to practice good hand hygiene when entering and leaving the building.”

Second outbreak declared at Rainycrest Long Term Care

Visitor restrictions have been expanded at Rainycrest Long Term Care.

It is because of a new respiratory outbreak that is impacting the Fort Frances home’s East Wing.

A similar outbreak was declared last week in the West Wing, but Riverside Health Care says the symptoms are unrelated.

Residents in the affected wings are being permitted only two visitors or caregivers at any one time, with visits restricted to the resident’s room.

Enhanced masking remains in place within all resident care areas, including all visitors required to wear a medical mask.

They may also be asked to wear additional personal protective equipment if required.

Riverside is also urging visitors to self-screen before entering, and anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms is asked to refrain from visiting until they feel better.

Restrictions on admissions, transfers, discharges and large group social activities have also been cancelled until further notice.

A respiratory outbreak at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances has prompted visitor restrictions.

It is impacting the West Wing of the home.

Residents are allowed only two visitors or caregivers in their room at any one time.

Visitors are also being told not to visit with more than one person while at the home.

Visitors and staff also have to wear a mask when in the affected area.

Additional personal protective equipment may be required at the home’s discretion.

Riverside Health Care is also urging all visitors to self-screen before entering our facilities.

Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms is being asked to stay away until they feel better.

The home has also put restrictions on admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Large group social activities for residents on the West Wing are also cancelled until further notice.

Influenza outbreak declared at Rainycrest

Riverside Health Care and the Northwestern Public Health Unit have declared an Influenza A outbreak at the Rainycrest Long Term Care Home.

The outbreak is present in both the East and West Wings of the building.

Restrictions have been put in place for visitors: only two visitors or caregivers may visit a resident at a time, and visitors are only allowed to see one resident per visit.

Visitations will be limited to residents’ rooms, with common areas off-limits.

Visitors will be asked to abide by masking protocols and may be asked to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

Large social gatherings are cancelled, and transfers, admissions and discharges are being constrained.

Rainycrest asks potential visitors to self-screen for flu-like symptoms and to avoid visiting altogether if any symptoms are experienced.

Only two (2) visitors or caregivers may visit at a time, with visits only permitted in the resident’s room.

All visitors are also required to wear a medical mask and may be required to wear additional personal protective equipment if required by staff.

Riverside urges all visitors to self-screen before entering and stay away if experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Riverside says the measures do not impact plans for other residents to hand out treats in the home’s main lobby.

That event takes place tonight from 3 to 7 p.m.

Salmonella outbreak sees pistachio products pulled off shelves in Ontario

Pistachios sold in Ontario have come under the microscope amid an ongoing salmonella scare.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for various pistachio and pistachio-related products across the province.

According to a release from the CFIA, East India brand green pistachios, Konscious Kitchen paleo and vegan pistachio bars and raw pistachio kernels from Enayat Farms and have been recalled.

The CFIA notes that “each of those companies are responsible for some, but not necessarily all, of the recalled products.”

The food inspection agency warns the recall also impacts bulk vegan pistachios sold from May 28 to June 5, which are distributed to hotels and restaurants but not sold directly to the public.

The warning advises people not to eat, sell or distribute recalled pistachios and related products.

Salmonella poisoning can cause fever, headache, nausea and abdominal cramps in healthy individuls while young children, pregnant women, seniors and those with weakened immune systems could contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.

The latest recall comes as the CFIA continues an ongoing nationwide investigation involving an outbreak of salmonella related to pistachio products across various provinces.
