ACORN calls on Moncton renters to rally for ‘Tenant Vote’
Moncton’s ACORN is rallying renters in an effort to make the “Tenant Vote” a deciding factor in the upcoming municipal election on May 11.
Organizers say many tenants are dealing with substandard housing conditions and feel overlooked by city council. They hope rallying will show that when tenants vote together, their concerns around housing and affordability cannot be ignored.
“For too long, the voices of tenants have been sidelined in the chambers of City Hall,” says Peter Jongeneelen, Chair of Moncton ACORN. “This election is our opportunity to change that. We aren’t just asking for better housing; we are demanding it.
“By showing up at the polls together, we are sending a clear message: any candidate who wants our vote must commit to real, proactive solutions for the people who actually live and work in this city.”
A Tenant Vote outreach event is being held May 7 at 1 p.m. in the Dollarama parking lot at Morton and Elmwood.
