Help a Monastery man rebuild after a devastating house fire

A GoFundMe has been set up for an elderly Monastery man who gives back to the community after his home was destroyed by a fire on Saturday, April 18.

Jennifer Toogood-Garnier made the fundraiser for her partner’s father Terry Izzard since she says he did not have any insurance to cover the repairs and lost contents, including his woodsman tools.

“He’ll do anything for anybody when if anybody asked him. People just know him as a great guy in the community. It was devastating to lose what he’s lost, everything in this house has been destroyed,” says Toogood-Garnier.

“Terry is at the position that he’s counting on the community members that he’s helped throughout the years to step on up and give him a little helping hand, whether it’s $5 [or] some donations and supplies.”

She says the goal is to raise $30,000 with the first $3,000 going towards boarding up the house and pumping water out of the basement.

Izzard also lost his garage by a fire 13 years ago almost to the day, according to Toogood-Garnier who says he’s originally from Boylston in Guysborough County.

RCMP say they were at the scene of the house fire, along with local fire services, and there were no injuries reported.
