Wind turbine deliveries to continue until at least end of month
More deliveries are being made to the Wedgeport Wind Farm.
The new project is being developed by Elemental Energy. They’re planning to build 12 turbines, each measuring 30 metres tall, at a site on Black Pond Road. Elemental Energy says the project should provide enough power to fuel 30,000 homes.
The blades are being brought in from Mulgrave and Sheet Harbour, and some components of the turbines measure nearly 300 feet long.
The delivery route follows Highway 334, 3 and 104, but extends further northeast through the province.
According to Elemental Energy spokesperson Jonathan Turner, there isn’t currently a schedule available for when deliveries will be made, but he expects most of them to be in the late morning and early afternoon.
“Our current schedule is for deliveries to be completed by the end of August,” said Turner in an email to Acadia News. “But this is subject to delivery schedules, availability of delivery vehicles and coordination with provincial escort vehicles.”
Previously, deliveries have caused concerns centered around traffic delays and fire safety. In July Highway 103 was closed after an incident involving a turbine blade.
