Two arrested in sex trafficking, money laundering scheme
Two people are facing a long list of sex trafficking charges involving multiple victims in Nova Scotia.
The RCMP says they started the investigation back in 2023 and identified multiple victims in Nova Scotia. In their news release from Friday, they do not say exactly how many victims are affected.
They say the safety of the victims was their main priority, and they connected them with the appropriate resources as they started to collect evidence to lay criminal charges.
Through the investigation, police found more than half a million dollars in money made from crimes was funneled through casino activities in three provinces. They say the case had connections to New Brunswick and Ontario, but they do not specify which casinos may have been involved.
Several RCMP officers and members of the Halifax Regional Police pulled over a vehicle on Highway 102 near Milford on April 10 and arrested a 49-year-old man from Porter’s Lake and a 43-year-old woman from Chester Basin.
The man faces 13 charges and remains in custody. The woman also faces several charges but was released. She will appear in court later.
The investigation continues.
