Emo township in court over Human Right Tribunal ruling
An Ontario court judge will hear arguments next week regarding the Township of Emo’s challenge of a Human Rights Tribunal ruling.
The tribunal determined in 2024 that the township and Mayor Harold McQuaker discriminated against Borderland Pride with council’s rejection of a Pride declaration four years earlier.
Complaints were filled by Borderland Pride.
Similar claims against two councillors were dismissed.
The township argues the ruling is incorrect and unreasonable.
It is asking the court to quash the ruling and the orders that came with it, including the need to take human rights training.
