Advanced polls on Saturday for Saint Andrews byelection
Voters in Saint Andrews will have the chance to cast a ballot on Saturday for the upcoming byelection.
Advanced polls will be open to elect four Ward 3 councillors in Saint Andrews.
“During the election period for the May 11th election, one of the nominated candidates unfortunately passed away. So under the Municipal Elections Act, the cancellation of the election was required just for that ward council. So that’s why we’re having a by-election in Saint. Andrews,” Elections NB Chief Electoral Officer Kim Poffenroth explained.
The advanced polls are open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m at 75 King Street.
Six candidates are running for the four councillor positions.
“Everyone in that community should have received a voter information card, the same as they did for the May 11th election. You should bring that in with you for quick processing. You don’t need your voter information card to vote, but it is very helpful. Your voting experience will be smooth and quick if you bring your voter information card,” Poffenroth said.
If you didn’t receive a card, it could mean you are not registered, and you’ll need to bring identification that includes your name, signature and your civic address.
“If any of the voters in Saint Andrews in Ward 3 happen to be shopping in St. Stephen, they can also go into the returning office there at 512 King Street, to vote Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can also call the returning office to receive a mail-in ballot,” Poffenroth added.
The official byelection day is Monday, June 22. Polls will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
