Celebrating Girl Guide Day in Antigonish
If you are passing by Town Hall in Antigonish, you will notice that it will be lit up in blue this weekend.
Mayor Sean Cameron proclaimed April 17 as Girl Guide Day in Antigonish, so the hall will match the colour of their uniforms for their contributions to the community.
He says the Antigonish Multi-branch Girl Guide Unit between grade primary to grade 12 visited the municipal office on Thursday evening to watch a council meeting, find out how elections work, and take a tour.
“One thing we did [was] we passed the chain of office around to each girl guide and they became mayor for a minute, and we got their picture taken,” he declared.
Cameron was surprised when some of the visitors even asked for autographs, which was a new thing for him.
In return, he surprised the girls and their leaders with their proclaimed day and turning the Town Hall blue.
Antigonish Guider, Lauren Kaiser shared with us some of the other activities they took part in during their visit.
“They got a tour of the building and all the offices. A highlight was to see the Town Hall clock, which is three very steep flights up. And they got to ask some questions about what counsellors do,” she explained.
She says their organization offers a safe and inclusive place for kids to be kids where they learn real life skills and adds there is a group in Antigonish and another one in Port Hawkesbury.
“Girl Guides across the province is always looking for volunteers. If people are interested in volunteering an hour or every week, every unit across the province is always happy to have help,” Kaiser promoted.
