Highway 1 cleanup continues
The cleanup is continuing after a fuel spill near Hampton.
A tanker truck crashed on Highway 1 about five kilometres west of the town on April 8.
Officials estimated at the time that 36,000 litres of fuel spilled.
A spokesperson for the Department of Environment said the company overseeing the cleanup, Pario Engineering & Environmental Sciences, is conducting ongoing surface monitoring.
Vicky Lutes said the median was excavated and contaminated soil removed and disposed of at an approved facility.
The median has been replaced, while other remediation work continues along the eastbound side of the highway.
Lutes said some fuel reached a tributary of the Hammond River and a wetland located near the site, but it was contained with booms and berms.
