Houston speaks out after public chants at fracking meeting in Windsor
Premier Tim Houston is speaking out after a public information session in Windsor on fracking turned vocal.
In a video posted on social media by Houston, community members are heard chanting, “no fracking” at the meeting Monday night.
Houston says when any group takes over and prevents others from participating, we all lose.
“It shuts down the very conversation we need to have as a province,” says Houston.
It was in December when Nova Scotia announced a $30 million program to study the potential for developing natural gas led by Dalhousie University.
The goal was to have local resources help reduce energy costs and create jobs.
Public engagement sessions were the first step before a call for proposals.
Houston says some were there who wanted to talk about jobs and some with environmental concerns.
“All these voices matter. They deserve to be heard,” says Houston.
