International Falls Broncos girls’ hockey coach charged
A coach of the International Falls Broncos girls’ hockey team is being accused of theft.
Bryan Wayne Kershaw is alleged to have redirected almost $10,000 intended for the booster club to himself.
The money was raised during an event last November.
Court documents reveal the team’s booster club made several attempts to get the money returned before filing a complaint with the International Falls Police last week.
In a statement issued by Superintendent of Independent School District #361, Beth Shermoen, the board is cooperating with police but is offering no other comment about the case.
“We understand this news may be unsettling for our student athletes, their families and our community,” the statement reads.
“Counselling and support resources are available through the District for any students who may need assistance processing this situation.”
The school board is also reviewing procedures of all of its athletic teams and booster clubs to ensure safeguards are in place.
