Lunenburg considering new paid parking bylaw, public hearing set

The Town of Lunenburg is considering changes to its paid parking system, with a new bylaw now open for public feedback.

Council has given first reading to a proposed Paid Parking By-law that would replace the current Parking Meter By-law and update how parking is managed across town.

If approved, the bylaw would allow drivers to pay for parking using both traditional meters and the HotSpot mobile app.

The proposal also includes removing paid parking during the months of January and February.

Other changes include increasing the parking fine from $15 to $25, and adding two free 30-minute parking spaces on Lincoln Street near the post office and Kinley’s Pharmacy to support short visits.

Council will hold a public hearing before making a final decision.

The hearing is scheduled for May 12 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, with options for both in-person and virtual participation.

Residents can also submit written comments ahead of time, with a deadline of May 5 for inclusion in the public agenda package.

Town officials say the changes are aimed at modernizing the system while improving accessibility and convenience for users.
