More work at Five-mile bridge near Fort Frances planned
CN intends to keep a rail bridge that crosses over Rainy Lake in the down position for three weeks.
It is to allow CN to replace a span at the Five-Mile Bridge, east of Fort Frances.
In a description of the work provided to Transport Canada, part of the work includes the temporary placement of floating platforms.
The work is to begin on May 10th.
The same bridge collapsed in August 2024 after a train passed over.
CN was able to resume train traffic across it a month later.
The bridge has remained in the down position since last November.
As of May 1st, the schedule will revert to normal operation, with the bridge closed from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day and in an open position for navigation from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day.
The bridge will then remain down from May 10th until June 1st.
The normal operating schedule will resume once the work is complete.
Boaters pass the bridge to access the lake’s northern portion.
