Municipality of Machin approves 2026 budget
The Municipality of Machin is looking at a 3.96 percent increase in its budget this year.
Mayor Gordon Griffiths admits it’s a bit higher than he would like,
But he says there are a number of projects they want to complete this year, so they need the extra tax money.
“We’re putting that new ice plant in the Woodland Arena, so we did get help from the provincial government, but there are still some costs involved in that,” explains Griffiths.
“There are some other projects that we’re working on that we’re still at the working stages, but we’re trying to make sure we don’t have a problem with funding.”
Griffiths adds that this was a difficult budget to finalize.
“When it was done initially it was quite a bit higher than the 3.96 percent, so it took us quite a while to go through line-by-line. We’ve got some things going on that pushed the budget up a bit.”
Griffiths says they want to give a number of roads a surface treatment, but the price of oil might affect those plans.
