Public and EverWind to meet over controversial $10 billion data centre
Residents across the Strait area will have their first opportunity this week to speak directly with the team behind EverWind’s proposed $10-billion Point Tupper data centre.
The two public open houses come just over two weeks after EverWind announced the project on October 16th, an announcement that has generated considerable public scrutiny and discussion across the region.
The proposed two-phase development would eventually use approximately 420 megawatts of electricity and, at full buildout, up to 500,000 litres of water a day from Landrie Lake. Those potential demands have become central to the public discussion, along with questions surrounding environmental impacts and the project’s potential economic benefits.
Now, residents will have an opportunity to put their questions directly to EverWind.
Two open houses are planned for this week:
Tuesday, November 3 — D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society Hall, 3276 Highway 320, D’Escousse.
Wednesday, November 4 — Riverdale Community Centre, 106 Vince McCarthy Drive, Lower River.
Doors open each evening at 5 p.m.
A project overview update presentation is scheduled for 5:45 p.m., followed by poster-board viewing and opportunities to speak with members of the project team from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The company says the open houses are intended to give community members an opportunity to meet the project team, review information and raise issues that are important to them.
The company says everyone is welcome to attend either session.
