Recruitment, growth and proposed fare increases for Codiac Transpo

Codiac Transpo is in the midst of a busy recruitment year, hiring more than 25 employees so far in 2026 while continuing to fill positions across the organization.

During a budget presentation to Riverview Town Council, Public Transit Director Angela Allain said the transit service is actively recruiting for a wide range of roles, including drivers, mechanics, supervisors, clerical staff and service personnel.

“Transit’s been very busy,” Allain said. “We’ve hired over 25 people so far this year. We have openings in all classifications if you know of people that are interested in working for us.”

Allain said the hiring campaign has attracted significant interest from job seekers.

“Recruitment is going quite well. We have a lot of applicants,” she told council.

The growing workforce is helping support an expanding transit system that is also facing infrastructure challenges.

Codiac Transpo is planning a future expansion of its garage facility, which Allain said has outgrown its original design. The current garage was built to accommodate 40 buses but is now serving a fleet of 52 vehicles.

The transit service is also preparing for continued growth in Riverview. Two new buses ordered in December 2025 are expected to arrive in 2027, doubling the municipality’s fleet from two buses to four.

Allain’s presentation highlighted several recent transit improvements in Riverview, including upgrades to bus stops through the installation of concrete pads and benches.

Council also heard that, pending budget approval, transit fares are expected to increase in January 2027. The proposed change would raise the cash fare by 25 cents, from $3 to $3.25, while monthly passes would increase by $1.

Transit changes coming soon to Moncton and Dieppe

Transit riders in Moncton and Dieppe will soon see updates to their bus routes as Codiac Transpo prepares to introduce a series of service changes across the tri‑community network.

The City of Moncton said the adjustments are intended to improve efficiency and give riders more reliable options throughout the day.

Several Moncton routes will be modified, including changes to Hildegard, Edinburgh and Caledonia.

The 62 Hildegard route will extend to the YMCA Moncton North through Twin Oaks before looping at the Ryan Street traffic circle, according to the city.

The 67 Edinburgh route will add two afternoon trips, while the 66 Caledonia route will shift its afternoon service to include Pine Tree before continuing to the Caledonia Industrial Park.

Codiac Transpo said all routes across Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview will now be fully accessible.

The release also outlines several updates specific to Dieppe that build on the city’s previously announced network redesign.

Service in Dieppe will increase by about 300 hours each week with the introduction of four new routes – 94A Centrale, 96 Orange, 96A Orange and 98 Chartersville.

As part of the redesign, the 95 Amirault route will be discontinued.

The city said 93 Champlain, 94 Centrale and 96 Orange will operate in both directions to give riders more convenient travel options.

The new 98 Chartersville route will run as a loop, with one bus serving the Lorette area before arriving at the Aquatic Hub and continuing west. A second transfer hub has also been added on Aquatique Street.

Printed schedules will be available on board for riders who prefer paper copies.

The full set of changes will take effect on Aug. 23.

Codiac Transpo will switch to reloadable fare card

Codiac Transpo is aiming to make transit payments easier by transitioning to a new reloadable fare card.

These new cards will be available for purchase beginning on May 4 at the same points of sale that disposable fare cards were, as well as through Codiac Transpo’s new online portal.

New fareboxes will be installed on all buses between May 4 and 11, during which time transit service will be free to avoid potential payment issues during installation.

Afterwards, riders should be able to pay using the new fare card, the Codiac+ app, or cash. Disposable fare cards will not be accepted starting on May 12, 2026.

The new account-based system will allow riders to register these cards online so they may be reloaded from anywhere. Card balances can also be protected if registered online in the event of a lost or stolen card.

The City of Moncton said seniors aged 65+ and students eligible for discounted 30-day passes will be required to do one-time validation by presenting valid identification in person at the Codiac Transpo headquarters.

Director of Public Transit Angela Allain said the goal of the switch is to enhance Codiac Transpo’s service by modernizing it for convenience, efficiency, and user-friendliness.

Old fare card balances can be transferred to the new cards by contacting Codiac Transpo support or calling their phone number.
