Collision involving Saint John Transit bus under investigation

Saint John Police are investigating after a crash involving a Saint John Transit bus Thursday.

Staff Sgt. Shawna Fowler said the incident was reported at 6:50 a.m. for a collision between the bus and another vehicle on Grandview Avenue.

The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital to be treated for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Grandview Avenue was closed for several hours while police conducted their investigation.

A cause has not been determined.

RCMP seeks public help in Greenwood fatal collision

Kings District RCMP is investigating the cause behind a collision in Greenwood Square that resulted in the death of a youth from Kentville.

According to a social media post, RCMP, fire services, and emergency health services (EHS) responded to a report of a collision on Hwy. 201 at around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Once they arrived at the scene, officers learned that a pickup truck and a car collided at the intersection of Hyw. 201 and Ward Road.

A youth who was a passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger was airlifted to hospital by EHS LifeFlight, while the driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers closed Hwy. 201 for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist examined the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, and Mounties are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, including those with dashcam footage, to contact the Kings District RCMP at 902-679-5555.

Hwy 17 briefly closed near Kenora

A motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 west of Kenora briefly closed the highway on Saturday.

Two pickup trucks were reported as being involved.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. near Royal Lake Road, about 40 kilometres west of Kenora.

No other details have been immediately released, and it is not certain if anyone has been injured.

The highway was reopened to traffic within an hour.

Updates will be provided as further information becomes available.

Sunny Brae School student struck by school bus

A student has been struck by a school bus in Moncton.

Acadia Broadcasting has obtained an email from Anglophone East superintendent and CEO Randolph MacLEAN to families of students at Sunny Brae School.

In the email, MacLean said a bus accidentally struck a student walking on McLaughlin Drive.

The bus was on its way to pick up students for the afternoon run and was empty at the time of the incident.

According to the email, first responders arrived quickly and assessed the student.

MacLEAN’s message said the student is conscious and was transported to hospital for further assessment.

“We are in communication with the school and the student’s family,” MacLEAN said in the email.

“Student and staff safety remains one of our core priorities.”

UPD: Upper Branch Road reopens after crash near Auburndale

Part of Upper Branch Road near Auburndale in Lunenburg County has reopened after being closed following a collision Saturday afternoon.

In a social media update posted at 4:39 p.m., Nova Scotia RCMP said the 1000-block of Upper Branch Road was closed in both directions while emergency crews responded to the crash.

The closure affected a section of the road near Auburndale, north of Bridgewater.

RCMP officers and other first responders attended the scene, and motorists were asked to avoid the area and follow detour directions.

In a later update, RCMP said Upper Branch Road had reopened.

Police have not released information about injuries or the number of vehicles involved.

UPDATE: Two taken to hospital, Highway 1 reopens after collision

The RCMP reopened Highway 1 through the Kennebecasis Valley shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Two people have been taken to hospital, one with serious injuries, after a collision on Highway 1 in Quispamsis Wednesday afternoon.

It had been closed for much of the afternoon and early evening after a collision between kilometre markers 141 and 142 in the eastbound lanes.

Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department Chief Shawn White told Acadia Broadcasting two vehicles were involved.

White said one vehicle rolled and trapped the occupant.

That vehicle was also on fire.

White said firefighters extinguished the fire and removed the occupant from the vehicle.

Traffic had been directed off the highway near the Dolan Road Irving, although transport trucks were forced to wait out the closure due to unrelated road closures near Hampton.

RCMP reconstructionists were on scene Wednesday.

Collision south of International Falls claims 3

Three people have been killed following a motor vehicle collision south of International Falls.

Minnesota State Patrol says two vehicles collided head-on on Highway 53 near County Road 521.

Emergency personnel from Kabetogama Fire and Emergency Medical Service, International Falls Fire and EMS, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia Medic all responded to the incident that occurred on Friday at around 11 a.m.

Voyageurs National Park Rangers were also on the scene.

The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Abigail Jane Holweger from Cottage Grove, Minnesota; 68-year-old Timothy Scott Friesner; and 67-year-old Sheila Mae Friesner, both from Roosevelt, Minnesota.

UPDATE: Three injured in Reversing Falls Bridge road collision

Three people were sent to the hospital following a road collision on the Reversing Falls Bridge.

In an email statement, Saint John Police Force spokesperson Shawna Fowler said the incident involved four vehicles, one of which was stolen.

A man from the stolen vehicle attempted to flee the scene on foot, but police arrested him at the Harbour passage, she said.

Fowler added that the three individuals transported to the hospital are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police first notified residents about the collision this morning.
