Dutch Village reopened, evacuated residents return home after crane incident
Residents evacuated near Dutch Village Road are returning home after a crane at risk of collapse was stabilized overnight.
Halifax Fire says the area was declared safe around 5:00 this morning following work by specialized engineers and crane experts.
On-duty officer Philip Thorburn says, “The work has been completed, they were able to get the crane repaired overnight. We’re just in the process of informing the residents that were evacuated that they can return home.”
About 100 people were forced out beginning around 5 p.m. Thursday as the evacuation zone expanded.
Roads have now reopened, with officials thanking residents for their patience.
