Closed Fort Frances roads close to reopening
It will be a few more weeks before Third Street West and Scott Street in Fort Frances are reopened.
Construction has forced detours this and last summer.
Infrastructure and Growth Manager Travis Rob says Scott between Reid and Mosher Avenues is close to being paved.
“Phase one, I think we’re still probably reasonably a month away from having it paved and open to vehicular traffic again,” says Rob.
“Third Street West, it’s probably about a month and a half before it’s going to be ready to be opened back up again as well.”
Both projects were started last year, but the contractor involved was forced to delay completion.
Rob says a penalty of $2,500 a day has been imposed until the projects are finished.
“It should be noted that the intent of this penalty for being over time is meant to cover our costs associated with the project being over time, such as engineering support,” says Rob.
The other road project underway is on Scott between Mowatt and Mosher Avenues and being done by a separate contractor.
Rob says the contractor on that job indicates that they are about three weeks ahead of schedule.
That section is likely to open up later in the fall.
