Local partners in SHEP communities launch food recovery initiative

Several organizations in Salisbury, Havelock, Elgin and Petitcodiac are coming together to help those in need.

They’re preparing 1000 portions of chilli. Work began yesterday at the Salisbury Legion and will continue on Tuesday, as part of a food recovery initiative.

This is a partnership involving Public Health Vitalité, La Tablée des Chefs, Horizon Health Network, Community Food Mentors, community volunteers, and local partners.

The meals will be frozen and distributed to residents through local food banks and other community partners.

Salisbury Mayor Robert Campbell says surplus food will be turned into nutritious meals and assist in strengthening food security in the region.

In 2023, more than 1 in 4 New Brunswickers (25.6%) experienced food insecurity (PROOF, 2024)

They will be frozen and distributed to residents through food banks and other community partners.
