Changes to remuneration for trustees acknowledged by Rainy River District School Board
A change to the honoraria provided to trustees who will take office in December for the Rainy River District School Board.
Provincial legislation is capping trustee remuneration at $9,000 per year, while tying it to student enrolment.
For trustees with the public board, it is likely to be around $6,500 a year because of the board’s small enrolment.
Trustees who serve as chair and vice-chair will get an extra $1,000 per year.
School board trustees acknowledge the changes at their meeting Tuesday night.
This also voids a decision trustees made in May that would have provided the chair and vice-chair higher amounts than permitted under the current legislation.
The legislation also permits an honorarium for student trustees, but no specific dollar figure has been provided
The board’s previous policy allowed a sum of $2,500, which was previously allowed under the Education Act.
