Christmas is only two months away, so mark the date on your calendar.

Santa Claus will officially arrive in Greater Moncton on November 28.

That’s the date of this year’s annual Greater Moncton Santa Claus parade.

If you’d like to enter a float or group in the parade, the deadline is November 6.

This year’s theme is Festival of Lights.

Greater Moncton’s Santa Claus parade welcomes almost 100,000 spectators to Moncton’s downtown each year as it officially brings the Christmas spirit.

It also helps to kickstart the Christmas shopping season in the Hub City.

The parade begins at 5:00 pm at the corner of Cameron and Main Street in Moncton and ends at the corner of Champlain and Paul Street in Dieppe.

Monitoring Santa’s journey for 70 years

,

Santa Claus will make his long journey around the world on Wednesday, December 24. For 70 years, a large military organization has been watching to ensure he’s safe.

It all started in 1955, with a phone number misprint in a retail store ad. A child reached the Continental Air Defence Command in error, and the rest is history.

The North American Aerospace Defence Command, or NORAD, now watches over Ole Saint Nick on Christmas Eve.

Hundreds of volunteers also take calls from children as Santa is making his journey, to drop toys to all of the good girls and boys.

NORAD’s Track Santa website is up and running.

33rd Rotary Santa Claus Parade Launch Event

33rd annual Rotary Santa Claus Parade opens float registration

,

Thunder Bay’s annual Rotary Santa Claus Parade is back and is accepting applications for parade floats.

The event put on by the Fort William Rotary, Port Arthur Rotary, Lakehead Rotary, alongside the Thunder Bay Rotary, is entering its 33rd year.

“It’s such a great community event,” said Santa Claus Parade Committee member Allan Kozlo. “You know people will look forward to it each and every year, and it’s just exciting from the Rotary clubs’ perspective to, you know, get together, put this on and just see all the smiling faces along the parade route year after year, 33 years is pretty amazing.”

According to organizers, most years the parade averages just under 60 floats per year, but the hope is to get over 60 this year.

“We’ve already had some float entries to date,” added Kozlo. “We’re encouraging a lot of corporations and organizations within the Community to sign up.”

“There’s no theme per se with respect to the float design, but the creativity that we’ve seen year after year is truly remarkable, and you really see the time and effort that organizations and corporations put into it.”

The parade is taking place on Saturday, November 15, and the starting area is the Real Canadian Superstore.

The action is getting underway at 10:00 a.m. and organizers are expecting a strong turnout as last year’s event saw roughly 20,000 attendees.

The parade route is the usual route from the Superstore along Memorial Avenue ending at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.
