Info needed after suspicious fire in Shediac

RCMP are looking for suspects after a deliberately set fire in Shediac.

Officers went to Pascal Poirier Park on September 22, where they found decorations had been set ablaze.

The Shediac Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire, and no one was hurt.

RCMP say an unknown individual was seen leaving the area at the time of the incident.

A description is not available, but anyone with information, photos or video that can assist should contact Shediac RCMP at 506-533-5151.

Timberlea arson was targeted, says RCMP

The RCMP says they believe the recent string of arsons in Timberlea are targeted.

A second home was destroyed over the weekend in the 400 block of Marketway Lane due to arson just days after another home was burned on the same street.

Cpl. Mandy Edwards says they are investigating.

“We are concerned that our community members are not feeling safe right now, and we take that to heart,” says Edwards.

“We are doing everything in our power that we can find out who’s responsible.”

Edwards says police have increased patrols through there, with marked and unmarked cars. Edwards says she could not explain how often the patrols are happening for security reasons.

On top of that, Edwards adds that multiple officers are exploring “a number of investigational tasks” so far.

“And it’s important to remember that sometimes our investigative tactics are not visible like day-to-day police work.”

She says they are relying on people in the area to report any strange things they see, like cars or suspicious people.

The investigation continues.

Police investigate Quispamsis arson

Kennebecasis Regional Police are investigating an arson in Quispamsis.

A statement from police said they got a report of two vehicles on fire in the Lake Road area early Thursday morning.

After investigating the incident, it was determined the fires were deliberately set.

RCMP investigate arson, attempted arson, in Timberlea

The RCMP are searching for answers after an arson and an attempted arson in Timberlea. 

The first incident happened at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Sept. 5, when RCMP responded to a report that a molotov cocktail had been thrown at a home on Marketway Lane.

RCMP say when they arrived the residence was completely engulfed in flames, and that neighbouring properties had minor damage.

No injuries were reported.

The second incident happened at approximately 4:10 a.m. on Sept. 7 near the same area on Marketway Lane. 

After a report of a suspicious person, investigators learned that a man was seen leaving a home with a cloth lit on fire. A jug of accelerant was also left nearby, and the man fled the area.

The incident is being treated as an attempted arson.

Both investigations are ongoing, and officers are looking for information related to a small blue vehicle seen leaving the area on Sept. 5. They’re also looking to identify a man wearing black pants and a brown jacket who was seen in a grey Honda Civic on Sept. 7.

Officers have specifically said they are interested in doorbell or dashcam footage from Marketway Lane between 1:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Sept. 5 and Sept. 7.

Church fire in Saint-Simon deliberately set, man charged

A 68-year-old man is charged with arson in connection with a fire near Caraquet.

Caraquet RCMP and the Caraquet, Bertrand, Shippagan Fire Departments, and Justice and Public Safety shortly after 4 am on Monday to the Saint-Simon church on Lebouthillier Street in Saint-Simon

Photos show an inferno as the structure burned. The church is a total loss.

Early in the investigation, RCMP identified the man as a person of interest. He was arrested and appeared in court yesterday to be formally charged.

He is being held in custody, with another court date for a bail hearing on August 28.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

Halifax RCMP charge Eastern Passage man with arson, animal cruelty

Halifax RCMP have charged an Eastern Passage man with seven offences, including arson and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, in connection with multiple incidents in the community.

According to an RCMP news release, the man appeared in Dartmouth provincial court on July 24 and was charged with:

  • Arson
  • Uttering threats to burn real or personal property
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
  • Resisting arrest
  • Causing unnecessary suffering to an animal
  • Two counts of mischief

The man was arrested July 21 following a series of incidents that occurred between July 14 and July 21.

On July 14 at about 6 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance on Blockade Circle involving an agitated man armed with a hammer.

RCMP said the man threatened neighbours, damaged property and threatened to burn down his home. He was arrested at the scene, taken to hospital for assessment and later released.

On July 18, officers received a report that a man walking a dog near Cow Bay Road and Garrison Drive was harming the animal. According to the release, officers were unable to respond immediately. The matter was referred to Halifax Animal Services and the Nova Scotia SPCA.

Two days later, on July 21 at about 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a complaint involving a disturbance and property damage at a residence in the 0-100 block of Blockade Circle.

Police learned that an internet cable connected to a neighbouring residence had been torn down and the person responsible had fled the scene.

While at the scene, officers heard a fire alarm and saw smoke coming from a nearby home. They entered the residence and used a fire extinguisher to suppress a basement fire until Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency arrived.

The release said evidence gathered through the execution of a search warrant indicated the fire had been deliberately set.

Following his court appearance, the man was released on conditions and is scheduled to return to court Oct. 2.

HRP investigating arson at two apartments on Brunswick Street

Halifax Regional Police officers are investigating two arson incidents that happened in the 2700 block of Brunswick Street.

It happened in the early hours Wednesday morning when officers were called to a fire at an apartment complex. When they arrived, they say they found a second fire at the adjoining building.

Officers say they found garbage can fires that were intentionally set in the stairwells of both scenes. They add that smoke triggered the sprinkler systems, causing damage and flooding in several units, but they report there were no physical injuries.

HRP is continuing to investigate.

Two suspicious fires in Inverness Co. under investigation, says RCMP

RCMP officers are searching for answers after investigating two fires that were both deemed suspicious in Inverness County.

The first fire happened on July 2 at around 3:30 in the morning. Officers responded to a structure fire in the 1200 block of Cenotaph Road in West Bay Centre. When they arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames and noticed it had significant damage before the fire was put out. They note that the sole occupant was able to escape without injury.

The second fire happened around noon on July 14. Officers say they learned of a potential arson that morning in Malagawatch. They say an abandoned home in the 8300 block of Marble Mountain Road had been destroyed before fire services could extinguish the flames.

RCMP is continuing to investigate both suspicious fires and are requesting information from the public about a man driving a red sedan near the home in West Bay Centre at the time of the July 2 fire.

Halifax Regional Police investigating arson at Flower Fox

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) are investigating a suspicious fire that happened on July 11.

Police and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency were called to Flower Fox at 70 Lacebook Drive at approximately 11:40 p.m..

According to an HRP press release, they received reports that a suspect wearing dark clothing broke the store’s front window, then threw an object inside which was believed to have started the fire.

The suspect then fled the scene on a bicycle.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Sussex man charged with arson, mischief

Sussex RCMP arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with an arson this week.

A press release said officers responded to a report of a residential fire on Post Road in Sussex on Wednesday.

The investigation led them to a person of interest, and they quickly located and arrested the suspect without incident.

The Sussex man appeared in Saint John provincial court Thursday and was charged with arson and mischief.

The man was remanded into custody and is scheduled to be back in court on Jan. 8.

The investigation is ongoing.
