Two men charged with attempting to kill woman they knew: RCMP

Two men are facing charges for attempted murder and other serious offences in a case of intimate partner violence in Beechville.

It was just before 8 in the morning on Tuesday when police got a call that two men had tried the night before to kill a woman known to them, according to a news release from RCMP.

Officers say it allegedly happened after a dispute at a home.

About 20 minutes after they got the call, police arrested one of the men at the home. The second was arrested in Dartmouth in the afternoon.

The woman was hurt but her injuries were not life-threatening, police say.

A 32-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both from Beechville, face a list of charges on top of attempted murder, including assault by choking and unlawful confinement.

They appeared in court on Wednesday. RCMP are not releasing their names to protect the victim.

They will appear in court again next month.

Nova Scotia declared intimate partner violence an epidemic in 2024, following a recommendation from the Mass Casualty Commission’s final report on the 2020 Portapique mass shooting.

Woman, 20, charged with attempted murder after shooting man in Princedale

A 20-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after officers found a 24-year-old man with gunshot wounds in Princedale.

The incident happened on Wednesday, Aug. 26, just after midnight at a home on Clementsvale Road.

Annapolis and Kings District RCMP, along with EHS, responded to the report of a shooting.

The man was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers say they were able to safely arrest the woman at the scene.

While investigating, RCMP seized the firearm believed to have been used to shoot the man, as well as other evidence.

The West Paradise woman has been charged with multiple offences, including Attempt to Commit Murder with Firearm, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and Unauthorized Possession of Firearm. She has also been charged with Failure to Comply with Undertaking.

Her first court appearance was on Thursday at the Annapolis Royal Provincial Court. She remains in custody pending future court dates.

RCMP says the investigation is now being led by Annapolis District RCMP with support from Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit and RCMP Forensic Identification Services.

Attempted murder charge for subject of emergency alert in Bedford

A man is facing a list of charges including attempted murder after an emergency alert in Bedford over the weekend.

RCMP say it was Saturday morning when they learned a 31-year-old woman had been shot by a man she knows in South Farmington.

The woman was taken to hospital, but the driver sped away. Officers monitored the vehicle in Beaver Bank as it headed to Lower Sackville.

About three hours later the car hit a tree while trying to drive along a hiking trail. The driver ran away prompting the alert which expanded to HRM.

A couple hours later, a 36-year-old man was then arrested. The gun used in the shooting remains missing.

He was scheduled for court Monday facing these charges:

Two charged with attempted murder after stabbing, shooting in Paq’tnkek First Nation

Two people are charged with attempted murder after an assault, a stabbing, and a shooting in Paq’tnkek First Nation near Antigonish.

It was on Thursday, July 23, at around 4 p.m. when RCMP officers responded to a report of a fight on Petow Loop Exit. When they arrived, investigators found that a 38-year-old woman armed with a knife had attacked a 50-year-old woman who was walking along the road.

The woman who was walking was able to get ahold of the knife and stabbed her attacker, but she was then hit with what officers say was a “blunt object” by a different woman.

A short time later, RCMP says they believe a man, 38, shot the woman who was originally attacked.

The woman who was stabbed and the woman who was shot were both taken to hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 38-year-old woman and 38-year-old man, were charged with attempted murder, and a 40-year-old woman was charged with assault.

Officers are asking anyone with information or videos of the incident to reach out as the investigation is ongoing.

2 adults, 3 youths arrested following attempted murder investigation in Eskasoni

Five people, including three youths, have been charged in connection with a serious assault in Eskasoni earlier this month.

Eskasoni RCMP say officers responded to a report of an injured man shortly after midnight on Saturday, July 4th. Police located the victim on Shore Road near the intersection of Mickey’s Lane and provided assistance.

As part of the investigation, RCMP executed search warrants at two homes on Logan Drive on July 10th. Officers arrested two men, aged 18 and 20, and seized evidence believed to be connected to the case.

On July 13, officers arrested one youth at the Eskasoni Detachment, and also carried out a search warrant at another residence, where two more youths were arrested.

The two adult suspects appeared in court on Monday, July 13th, while the three youths are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, July 14th.

Eskasoni RCMP continues to investigate the incident with assistance from RCMP Forensic Identification Services. Authorities have not released information on the victim’s condition.

Digby man faces attempted murder charges for shooting another with BB gun: RCMP

A Yarmouth man is facing attempted murder charges after shooting another man with a BB gun.

The Yarmouth RCMP says they got a call on Saturday around 5:30 in the afternoon about a shooting in the 7700 block of Highway 308.

They say two men who know each other allegedly got into a fight outside of a home. One shot the other and then got in an SUV and drove off.

The 22-year-old was hurt and taken to hospital, police say.

On the way to the scene, responding officers saw the vehicle on Highway 308 leaving the Quinan area and managed to pull the car over in Tusket.

Two women and one man were in the vehicle. They say they arrested two, but one woman was not part of the incident and they let her go.

A 25-year-old man from Digby faces several charges, including attempted murder, assault, and uttering threats. He remains in custody and will appear in court on June 9.

And a 25-year-old woman, also from Digby, faces multiple charges, too, including assault and weapons charges.

Clare man charged with attempted murder after violent assault; RCMP

A Clare man is charged with attempted murder after a violent assault.

Meteghan RCMP say it happened around 3 p.m. on April 9, inside a home on Belliveau Lake Estate Road.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 33-year-old man from Belliveau’s Cove was arrested at the scene, he is facing 18 charges.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, he’s also facing aggravated assault and assault with a weapon charges.

The man also had outstanding warrants for other investigations, he’s still in custody after a court appearance last week.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 23 in Digby.

Thunder Bay resident facing attempted murder charge following investigation into assault on Red River Road

A Thunder Bay resident is facing an attempted murder charge following an investigation into a serious assault that took place at the corner of Red River Road and Clarkson Avenue.

The incident took place on Saturday and left an 85-year-old man with serious injuries.

The victim, Hendrick Walinga remains in hospital.

“We’re releasing his name at this time as we’re having difficulty locating his family,” explained Acting Inspector Chris Carlucci. “Mr. Wallinga remains in hospital after ongoing extensive surgery. He is in stable but serious condition.”

“We can say at this time we believe this to be a random act of violence.”

The suspect left the scene before police arrived.

After drone and dog searches failed to yield more information, city police issued a public call for additional information.

This led to members of the public assisting in identifying the suspect.

The accused remains in custody with a future court date.
