Inverness County provides update on Whycocomagh boil water advisory

A boil water advisory remains in effect for users of the Whycocomagh Water System.

On Tuesday, June 9, residents may notice members of the Municipal Public Works team conducting leak detection work in the community. According to officials, leak detection work involves looking for areas where water is leaking from the system by checking for drops in pressure or certain sounds.

The municipality notes overnight leak detection work is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m., which may result in temporary reductions in water pressure.

The Municipality of Inverness County says residents can pick up drinking water on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week from 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., at the Whycocomagh Volunteer Fire Department, 9519 Trans-Canada Highway.

Households are eligible for up to three four‑litre jugs, depending on household size:

  • One-person household: one jug (4 litres)
  • Two-person household: two jugs (8 litres)
  • Three or more people: three jugs (12 litres)

The municipality says water distribution and voucher pick‑up will continue until the advisory is lifted, with double the amount available on Friday to ensure residents have enough water for the weekend.

Residents may also collect a water voucher during the distribution period. Vouchers can be redeemed at the Whycocomagh Co-op for bottled drinking water.

Affected businesses are asked to reach out the Municipality’s Public Works Department to arrange water drop-off.
