David Benoit named next NSCC president
The Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) will welcome a new president on January 1.
David Benoit brings more than 30 years of leadership experience spanning education, public service, infrastructure development and the Canadian Armed Forces.
He currently serves as president and CEO of Build Nova Scotia, and he previously held senior leadership roles with the Department of Health and Wellness.
He also served as Commandant of the Canadian Forces Naval Engineering School and Commanding Officer of Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott, helping develop the skilled workforce needed to support Canada’s naval operations. He graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada with a degree in electrical engineering and holds master’s degrees in business administration and defence studies.
In a news release, Benoit says he’s “honoured to join NSCC and look[s] forward to working with students, employees, industry and communities to build on that work and prepare Nova Scotians for the opportunities ahead.”
The current NSCC president, Anna Burke, is moving into the role of vice-president for college services and strategy at the school.
The college says as the province grows, the facility will play an increasingly important role in preparing students to enter the skilled workforce needed for defence, shipbuilding, trades, healthcare, housing, clean energy and more.
