Theft suspect rams police cars, faces charges following Moncton arrest
A 35-year-old man from Haut-Aboujagane has been charged following a theft and resisting arrest incident in Moncton.
RCMP say officers located a stolen SUV on Tuesday after it fled police earlier in the day. Several units assisted, including RCMP Air Services, Police Dog Services, the CRU Priority Offender Team, and General Investigative Services.
The suspect parked the SUV around 2:30 that afternoon on Gordon Street in Moncton. Officers say they then blocked him from re-entering the vehicle, and an altercation ensued during which an edged weapon was seized.
During the struggle, the suspect was able to start the vehicle and, in an attempt to escape, backed into an unmarked police vehicle. He then tried to drive forward, colliding with a second police vehicle and rendering the stolen SUV immobile.
The suspect, who was already wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for failing to comply with the conditions of his statutory release, was arrested. He remains in custody pending a court appearance as the investigation continues.
